Year 10

Welcome back, year 10.

This is the start of your GCSE's. There is no doubt that this time is the most important time of your academic lives so far. How well you work over the next two years and the successes you achieve will be setting you up for the rest of your lives.

It will be hard work, but there is nothing in this life worth having that comes easily to us.

You will be starting with The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

I am keen on putting a lot more of the responsibility of the learning onto your shoulders. I will work hard for you over these next two years, but I will be expecting you to meet me half way!

So, here, I will be adding documents, notes, links, videos, tasks and anything else I want you to be doing outside of school.

This classroom will be 'flipped,' meaning that there will be tasks to complete before you come to the lessons.

There is so much more I want to say to you here, but for now, I am attaching three documents. You will be getting a paper copy of the booklet, but is worth having in the cloud, too. I am also including a link to the audiobook on YouTube. It will not be enough to read this book once over the next half term. Instead, I will be looking for you to have read it five or six times by the end. You have to know it inside out.

The homework booklet must be completed and handed in by the end of the term.

UPDATE: 08/09/15

Because of the fact that there is a delay in the Jekyll and Hyde books being delivered, please either begin reading the text online or you can listen to it on the audiobook. I would like you to all have read the book by next Tuesday (15/9).

This is a good video giving an introduction to themes and historical context:

USEFUL WEBSITE FOR NOTES ON J&H

Use this website for further wider reading outside of the classroom about J&H. The themes section is particularly useful for making annotations in your books.

UPDATE:
You can also download their app - just punch in 'litcharts' et voila. It is a really useful source of information for revision.

A gentle reminder that the homework booklet is due in on Wednesday 14/10/15. With us not revisiting the novel until next year just prior to the exam, this will act as a perfect revision guide and accompaniment to your studies.

REVISION FOR THURSDAY'S BIG ASSESSMENT:

Read the book again
Consider the key themes
Consider the key characters

Good luck, everyone!
